Personal code of practice
My personal credo focuses on four main principles.
1. Client need
I ensure the needs of the client are always foremost in my mind and that my focus in any coaching session is on developing people for their benefit not mine. I always aim to encourage self-awareness in others to give them the tools and techniques to leave the coaching relationship and manage their own lives in a more satisfying and fulfilling way.
2. Independence and neutrality
I maintain an independent and neutral view at all times. I am open and non-judgemental at all times and ensure that my practices do not discriminate against any individual referred to any anti-discrimination or equality legislation.
3. Confidentiality
I maintain the strictest confidentiality in the client/coach relationship and emphasise the importance of this in the ongoing relationship with the client. I ensure that the Data Protection Act is adhered to in relation to client records and ensure my client records are kept secure at all times. The only circumstance under which records would be divulged is if I am legally bound to do so.
4. Continuing Professional Development
I aim to provide valuable support and service to my clients and through a commitment to Continuing Professional Development grow my skills and knowledge to this end. Through reflective practice and supervisory support I am able to recognise my own limitations and ensure that I terminate a coaching relationship once the clients’ needs are outside my level of experience and knowledge.
